Singles in the Rhône, bouchons and good food

World capital of gastronomy, the Rhône makes meeting and eating well rhyme. Between warm bouchons, Paul Bocuse market hall and Saône-side markets, the table opens many a conversation.

Lyon bouchons

Bouchons are those small restaurants typical of Lyon, with chequered tablecloths and generous pots. Over a tripe tablier, a pike quenelle in Nantua sauce or a lyonnaise salad, you get to know each other without hurry. The most authentic bouchons are labelled by the Bouchons lyonnais association: a real promise of friendliness for a first date.

Paul Bocuse Hall and the gourmet quarter

The Paul Bocuse market hall, renamed in honour of the great Lyonnais chef, gathers under one roof the region’s best producers: cheesemongers, charcutiers, fishmongers and pastry chefs. People come on Saturday morning for a seafood platter and a glass of white wine, or simply to taste rosette and pink pralines. A lively setting, perfect for a shared lunch.

Markets and Rue Mercière

The Saint-Antoine market, along the Saône quays, is one of France’s loveliest markets, especially on Sunday morning. In the evening, Rue Mercière on the Presqu’île lines up its bistros, white tablecloths and warm lanterns: perfect for a dinner on a terrace. On Lyad, members from the Rhône share their favourite tables; it is up to you to find someone to clink glasses with.
